Surge Battery Metals, a company trading under the tickers TSXV: NILI and OTCQX: NILIF, has recently announced a significant advancement in its exploration efforts within Nevada. In a strategic move to expand its foothold in the burgeoning lithium market, Surge has secured an entry and exploration agreement with the Salmon River Cattlemen’s Association (SRCA). This agreement grants Surge the right to initiate drilling on SRCA-owned lands, where it possesses 25% of the surface mineral rights covering approximately 880 acres within its Nevada North lithium project (NNLP) in Nevada.
This announcement comes on the heels of a landmark revelation in February, where Surge disclosed a Maiden Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for the NNLP. Impressively, this MRE report spotlighted that NNLP hosts the highest grade lithium clay resource in the United States, boasting 4.7Mt of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) with an average grade of 2,839 ppm Li, at a cutoff of 1,250 ppm. Further elevating its profile, the MRE also noted reserves exceeding 4Mt of LCE with a lithium concentration of 3,167 ppm, at a 2,000 ppm cutoff. This preliminary estimate only spans a fragment of the land, hinting at the vast potential for expansion upon further exploration.
Surge plans to meticulously carry out a drilling program that involves four reverse circulation drill holes on the SRCA corridors, aiming to probe extensions of high-grade lithium mineralization that previous drilling operations unearthed north of these sections alongside high-grade soil geochemistry exceeding 1,000 ppm Li. The strategy also includes additional drilling on both owned claims and those shared with joint venture partner M3 Metals.
Scheduled to commence by the end of May 2024, the drilling initiative seeks to explore lithium mineralization approximately 1km to the west and 1.2km to the south of the initial resource area delineated in February 2024. This ambitious exploration campaign is designed to both expand and refine the understanding of lithium clay mineralization within the NNLP, setting the stage for intensive infill drilling slated for 2025.
As Surge CEO, Greg Reimer, ardently expressed, this agreement with the Salmon River Cattlemen’s Association marks a pivotal point in the project’s development. Emphasizing the company’s commitment to a comprehensive exploration program in 2024, Reimer highlighted that the forthcoming ventures aim to substantially grow the mineralization footprint, laying a solid groundwork for the exploration endeavors in 2025.
