In a recently released updated technical report, MAG Silver Corp., in its joint venture with Fresnillo for the Juanicipio project in Mexico, was highlighted for its “robust economics.” This detailed examination by Roth MKM underscored a striking after-tax net present value of US$1.48 billion at current spot prices. Despite these positive figures, the investment bank Roth MKM adjusted its target price on the Canadian silver producer to US$14 per share, down from US$15.50, due to discrepancies between the report’s estimates and Roth’s model, notably in sustained capital and metal recoveries.

Nonetheless, Roth MKM maintains a “Buy” rating for MAG Silver, underscoring its belief that the market significantly undervalues the stock. Analyst Joe Reagor emphasized the favorable economics of the Juanicipio project, pointing out the upward revision of the existing resource size and the inclusion of a maiden mineral reserve estimate. These updates positively impacted Roth’s projections, extending the mine’s life expectancy by an additional four years.

The technical report also showed a robust after-tax net present value of US$1.2 billion on base case prices, soaring to US$1.48 billion at current spot prices. According to Reagor, this presents a compelling investment case, with MAG’s share price at $9.01 potentially offering a 55% return to investors. This indicates strong confidence in the continued value and potential for further discoveries within the project.

Adjustments to the target price were influenced by the technical report’s higher-than-expected estimates for sustaining capital over the mine’s 13-year lifespan, and conservative recovery rates for silver, lead, and zinc based on initial startup data. These factors underscore the dynamic nature of mining economics and the importance of meticulous financial planning in assessing the viability and profitability of mining projects. Despite these adjustments, the overall positive outlook for the Juanicipio project underscores its potential to significantly contribute to the silver mining industry and offer substantial returns to investors.
