Sovereign Metals, a company listed both on the AIM and ASX, has recently made significant progress at its Kasiya rutile/graphite project located in Malawi. As part of its spiral drilling programme, the company has successfully extracted, despatched, and delivered a considerable amount of ore—30 tons—to be precise, to Paterson & Cooke (P&C), which is based in Cape Town, South Africa, for specialized test work. P&C is highly regarded in the mining industry, providing engineering consulting services to various sectors within the field.

This step is a significant milestone for Sovereign Metals as it advances its exploration and development activities at the Kasiya site. The shipment of ore to South Africa marks a pivotal phase in the project’s life cycle, transitioning from exploration to a more detailed study phase focusing on the ore’s processing and potential commercial viability.

The Kasiya rutile/graphite project is drawing attention not only for its potential to produce critical mineral resources but also for the sustainable and innovative approaches Sovereign Metals is applying in its development. Rutile is a high-grade titanium ore, used in a broad range of industrial applications, including the manufacture of refractory ceramic, as a pigment, and in the production of titanium metal.
